97 Grand Am drive sequence

Hi everyone. I recently replaced the O2 sensors on my 97 Grand Am GT (4 cyl) and reset the computer. I was curious if anyone knew the drive sequence to get through all the cycles. Im trying to pass emissions and twice after doing previous work, I've failed because the OBD system wasn't ready. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

How did you clear the computer? The computer should not be an issue if you installed the new O2 sensors as they should readily be recognized. Are you certain that you don't have another code in the computer that is causing a problem. Failing emissions can be due to several items not just the O2 sensors. If the EGR valve is dirty or not working properly it can cause a problem also if the cat is bad it may not be cleaning the exhaust properly and therefore the car will fail. Lastly, what did you fail in the emissions test?

By "clearing the computer" I meant clearing the code which was a p0141 (O2 sensor heater circuit). I did this by disconnecting the battery. This clears the codes in the OBD. That was the only code that came up and caused me to fail so I replaced both O2 sensors. And now actually I'm at a loss because the check engine light came on again today so apparently that didnt fix it. I'm still getting the same code which doesnt make a bit of sense to me. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok, did you check for 12v on the heated circuit wire to the suspect sensor, check the fuses, check for bad connections? You really don't know if the sensors were even bad without the basic checks! This code is the second sensor in the exhaust, heater circuit only.

You have obdII, it can't be reset by disconnecting the battery. It has to be reset with a scanner, most garages should be able to do this for you.

Yes, you can clear the codes. If you disconnect the battery for a half hour it will turn off the check engine light and reset the OBD. However there is a drive sequence that the engine has to go through to get the system ready to be tested again (a certain amount of time city driving, a certain amount of time driving at a sustained speed over 45 mph etc.). Anyway, I checked the fuse, connections, wiring, etc., no problems. I'm going today to check the voltages on the O2 sensors. I'm really starting to get irritated with all this.
