CTS questions
I searched but didn't really find an answer and the Chilton's is no help, naturally. I think I know where the CTS is but is there a seperate sensor for the gauge on my 94 Rodeo, 3.2, 4X4? If so, where is it? My temp gauge is showing that the truck is nearly overheating, but it just doesn't seem like it actually is. My IR thermometer is at work so I can't confirm how hot the engine is, but it doesn't seem to be too hot so I suspect the gauge sensor is bad.

Anyway, I brought my IR thermometer home today and scanned the engine. The radiator appears to be doing its job, about 50 degrees cooler on the bottom hose. With the gauge reading 3/4 up, I get a reading of about 190-200 degrees on the surface of the top hose and about 150 on the surface of the bottom hose. Does this sound like an accurate gauge? Is there a pin on the ECM that I can put a volt meter on to see what temp the ECM is seeing? Do the ECM and gauge use different sensors for engine temp? Another thing, it seems the left bank of the engine runs a bit hotter than the right bank, according the temp reading of the valve covers, there is about a 20 degree difference. Seems odd to me. Any input?

On my '97 there are 2 temp sensors way at the back of the engine on the water manifold. One is for the guage (yellow wire?). I lost my temp guage and voltmeter a long time ago, and changing the temp sensor didn't help, nor did changing the guage. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Ok, still working on this problem. The engine is running too hot. I'm having trouble figuring out whats wrong. The radiator is certainly doing its job. Temp readings are 50 degrees cooler on the lower hose than the upper but the engine is running at over 200 degrees and the gauge is starting the enter the red zone. The system is pressurizing so about the only other thing is that maybe the water pump isn't doing its job? I tried jumpering the condensor fan but it doesn't help keep it cooler. Having the heater on does help a little bit though. Really need some help here.

Try a new thermostat.
I would go with OEM isuzu one, costs more but they last a long time.

It was the thermostat. I really didn't think that was the problem because it seemed like I was getting circulation and differing temps on the upper and lower hoses AND it wasn't going all the way to overheating, just getting close. Oh well, its fixed now. \o/
