Red face 1998 Isuzu Rodeo timing belt replacement?

HI guys I'm working on this Isuzu Rodeo, getting ready to change out timing belt. I have done a couple of timing belts. I was wondering has anybody has change one recently? Should I go with an aftermarket belt or should I go with same brand? Also is it necessary to change out the belt (adj- pusher) and pulleys?

And it's a good time to swap the water pump. I went with Advance for everything but the tensioner, which I got from St. Charles Automotive Group in St. Louis.

i would go with original belt, i did. What surprised me was the belt a the dealer was even $3 cheaper than aftermarket one.

Re: 1998 Isuzu Rodeo timing belt replacement?

I was thinking about ordering http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-...spagenameZWDVW
from ebay. It would save me $144 compared to the dealer.

SF, which water pump did you go with from Advance? I see ASC and Cardone new & reman.

I can't tell you the name brand of the water pump I got at Advance. Sorry. No problems yet, though.

Do they not show the tensioner in that picture on eBay? I see the roller but not the hydraulic pushrod?

The hydraulic tensioner is not included in the kit. Really makes no sense to me if that's what fails.

Makes perfect sense - they want you to pay more for parts needed. Parts for Isuzu's aren't cheap to begin with.

And yet they say they have it in the text. Tricky bastids!

It's the same if you buy the timing belt installation kit from Advance. No tensioner. I was glad I found that out before tearing the truck apart.

Re: 1998 Isuzu Rodeo timing belt replacement?

I found the receipt for the water pump. It doesn't have the brand name, but it was $76 and change and new, not reman.

Re: 1998 Isuzu Rodeo timing belt replacement?

Which one starts to make all the noise when it is worn out? Is it the tensioner adjuster or the tensioner pulley? The exploded enginge drawing shows these parts. Would it be a good idea to replace all of these when doing the timing belt? What I would like to do is to get all the parts together - belts, hoses, water pump, etc, then take it down to the mechanic and say here are the parts and this is what I would like done. Plus I would like to have the old parts back. Is this a good idea?
