Exclamation installed new radio, doesn't get power

i have a 95 honda accord, i tried to install an aftermarker radio and it doesn't get any power to it. a lot of my friends have looked at the radio and said it's wired right, but i don't understand why it isn't getting power, because the stock radio does..doesn't anyone know why?

also now that i've got the stock radio back in it, everytime i turn on my car it says to put it in the code, and i do it everytime..that doesn't really bother me, but i'd like to know why the aftermarket radio isn't getting power!!

my roommate is having the same problem with her 96 grand am..maybe it's something to do with stock radio's that have codes? PLEASE HELP!

Re: installed new radio, doesn't get power

It sounds like your constant power isn't working. This would cause your aftermarket not to work and make it so you have to enter in the code every time in your stock one. Some stock radios will run off of just the wire that tells the stereo to power on, but aftermarkets need both constant and the other.

To check this I would put the aftermarket back in, and connect the constant power with the ingnition power and see if it turns on (Cross the red onto the feed of the yellow I think). If it does turn on then you just need to find the problem, or run a new wire from the battery to make up for the loss in power.

Usually in the aftermarket stereos the yellow is the ignition and the red is constant. I would also check your ground. Run the black directly to a bolt under the dash somewhere. Thats actually what I ended up doing in my 95 Accord just to make sure I would never have a grounding problem.

Re: installed new radio, doesn't get power

Connect them on the side of the new stereo.

So you new harness should look like this, well at least the colors of the wires. Connect the red wire to the same location as the yellow wire and turn the key to the run position and see if the stereo turns on. To get the stereo to run you need 3 wires hooked up. The red, constant power, the yellow, ignition power or tells the head unit to turn on when the car is running, and ground, the black wire and it may be a good idea to connect the ground to a well grounded bolt under your dash somewhere so you know your getting the best possable ground.

Feel free to ask questions! Dont worry about it.
