My wife owns a 96 Sunfire 2.2, 5 spd, 114,000 miles. she just recently started to have a very annoying problem when hitting the brakes: the headlights will flicker and you head a "clicking" sound. does anyone know what could be the cause of this? and if there is a way of fixing it without going to an overpriced mechanic.

Re: 96 Pontiac sunfire Brake problems
sounds like your abs system is acting up or she is hitting the brakes to hard...

Re: 96 Pontiac sunfire Brake problems
I've driven the car and have the same problem when just lightly tapping the brakes. I'm going to try putting a new abs module in and see if that helps

Re: 96 Pontiac sunfire Brake problems
yes it sounds like an abs problem. I had a problem like that, i just unplugged to abs module and left it at that. it could possibly be anything from a dirty wheel sensor - to a messed hydraulic brake pump. if cleaning the sensors doesnt help, then i would suggest taking it in to a specialized abs mechanic.
