Ideas for my 93 3.3L GAGT exhaust

Anyone familiar with the 93 GAGT knows that there are practiaclly no manufactured performance items for this car.

Exhaust is one area where you can custom build relatively easy. That being said, i am trying to figure out what would work best.

The stock system comes off the exhaust manifold into the cat, into a large muffler on the left, out of the large muffler into a smaller muffler on the right, then both the large and small muffler seperately exhauast into dual tips.

Personally i hate the way it's designed, sounds and looks.

Since no one makes headers, i am thinking of leaving the manifold, replacing the Cat with a highflow Cat, into a single Flowmaster 40 and then a Y pipe running out to bumper cutouts with dual tips.

I am open to other thoughts, suggestions, and comments as i am certainly no expert on designing exhaust systems.

Re: Ideas for my 93 3.3L GAGT exhaust

good idea ^^ if you can fit it up all in there.... after the high flow cat you might be able to place the muffler there and just do the Y split out to dual exhaust .... def. a great idea .. it'll be much louder and dual tips/dual outlets will look sweet

I've heard that some people place a flowmaster 80 as a muffler but dunno.... also might be funky to fit ... a straight pipe muffler will do though if you delete the resonator .. thats what I did for mine and at the moment I have no tip... so its just OEM headers/cat, then my red hots holly glasspack straight muffler... then original piping out and the old muffler is cut off =p .. sort of a pain to adjust the tips and everything so I didnt bother with it....

Re: Ideas for my 93 3.3L GAGT exhaust

thiers not much room under the 93's,
to do anything fancy with the exhaust.

Theirs 1 cat , 1 resonator, and a muffler that goes out the tail.
I hav seen headers for the 3.3L , but I done a search and couldnt find any.
Years back I had made a set for a 3.3L(93) GA I still hav them, but they arent for sale, sorry

I dont think the Flowmaster 80 series would work, they hav 1 in and two out.

You could try going to a mom & pops muffler shop,
they could probly do a bigger/less restrictive exhaust for around $200(depending on where you live).

THough, sounds like you hav a good idea of what you want to do, the 40 series Flowmasterwould work and giv you a decent sound

A "Y" out of the 40 Series , or the single in dual out(part # 430402) on the 40 series would eliminate the need for a "y" and would be less restrictive then the "y".

Hope this give you more ideas.

think it'd be possible for a muffler shop to fab up a full cat-back with an 80 series?

keeping the original size pipe and all... cause this doesnt sound like too bad of an idea rather than buying a $400 cat-back

Re: Ideas for my 93 3.3L GAGT exhaust

I like the idea of the single in dual out(part # 430402) on the 40 series.
I want to replace the stock CAT with a highflow also.

The problem in NJ is most local shops want to charge a fortune to do any custom work. I have a few leads i can check out though.

If i could stay at $200 or under i would say that is a steal.

The older GAs are totally differant underneath then the 99'+. No Room for the big 80 series. But it works great for a replacment on the 99+ GAs.

The 40 series are only around $60, a high flow cat, thats about $250

New Jersey I seee .....

Well If you got a 40 series, and replaced the resonator with a straight pipe, you'd pick up a couple hp, and get better flow through out the exhaust. Flowmasters sound really good too.
You might even be able to do DIY it with a hacksaw like Gir done , it is labor intense.
You might be able to rent an exhaust pipe cutter
Looks like visegrips but has a chain with cutters and you wrap it around the pipe to cut it, much easier than hack sawing.

Good Luck let me know how it goes.

Re: Ideas for my 93 3.3L GAGT exhaust

If you can find a high flow cat, get it, make sure the flange matches the stock one at the end of the cat. Get an intermediate pipe for a 95 gt, it splits after the rear axle, get the crossover pipe for the 95 as well, then you can look at different mufflers. Personally, I'd go with magnaflow, they work really well on my 95. If you need part numbers, let me know I can get them for you for the pipes. Good luck.

I found this listed on Summit as a direct fit. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...D23495&FROM=MG

I suppose i would have to call Summit to verify that this would bolt right up and that the flanges matched.

Re: Ideas for my 93 3.3L GAGT exhaust

Found my receipt (finally) and on the driver side I'm using #14377 and on the passenger side I'm using #14363. The passenger side required a little bit of adjustment to the cross pipe, had to bend it and trim it so the muffler would clear the fuel filler. Doesn't sound tinny or ricey at all which is what I was going for.
