1999 brake problem
While driving down the interstate both the emergency brake and the anti lock brake light came on. Replaced front pads and rotors also rear shoes . Lights remained on disconected battery over night lights still on. Now speedometer doesnt move till around 20mph. Any ideas on brake lights. This is the second set of rear shoes in 80,000.

Re: 1999 brake problem
Since it's speedo related, I'd start by checking all the wheel speed sensors.

Re: 1999 brake problem
It's the rear wheel speed sensor. It is on the top of the differential and costs about $30-$40 at the dealer. Easy to replace and very common part to fail.

Re: 1999 brake problem
Thanks guys it was the rear wheel anti lock brake sensor. I asked 2 local dealers for advice the said it would cost $80 to put on computer and they aren't sure that would tell me. But when I picked up the $38 part the parts guys said that is a common problem. It was a little tough removing the old one it broke into 3 pieces while prying on it but with needle nose I got it all out. Thanks again

Re: 1999 brake problem
For the shoe wear...make sure you are using good quality shoes like Raybestos. Cheap shoes will usually grab better but wear faster. Better shoes will wear slower and will give a good balanced braking response.
