Transmission exchange
I recently had my transmission go out on my 96. I called around a few places and they quoted my $3,000 for a rebuild. That's a little expensive for me and I am not sure I want to put that kind of money into this car. I also called a salvage yard and found a used tranny for $600 (no warranty).
Has anyone ever done a transmission job? I have swapped out a tranny on a 86 Nissan 300ZX but I wasn't sure if this job is going to be extremely difficult or not. ANy thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, Dan |

Re: Transmission exchange
I had my tranmission rebuilt for $1800 and they did a good job on my trans. plus you can find a remanufactured trans on ebay for about $1200 and most shop would drop it in for $400. My trans ran like new money on my 96 aurora and i'm glad I did it.

Re: Transmission exchange
Yeah it a big job but these fix and change transmission all day so it easy as 1,2,3 to them. The guy was done with my trans in two days and that because he has other cars to work on. Most shop will cut you a deal, got mine done through Multi-State transmissions.

Re: Transmission exchange
Book shows 13.5 hrs to R&R trans.
Figure that is for an experianced tech. This guy is leaving half the bolts out to do it quick enough to make money @$400. Quote:
