82 Cruiser Problems

My car stalled out, a wile ago i tried to start it after it didnt run for a couple weeks and i had to tap the starter for it to get going. Then after that when i would drive around it would just turn off for a quick second like it died then start back up again before i had time to take my foot off the gas. Now it wont start at all, when i turn the key its completely nothing, no turning over, no cranking. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: 82 Cruiser Problems

O im sorry im not really too sure, i just barely got the car a lil bit ago. Im not too familiar with oldsmobile, or really anything besides a 4 cylinder. But neway, i know its a v8 and i got under the car and wired it directly to the starter and nothing. Is there any thing specific i should check for?

Your post is vague at best! As mentioned, focus on battery condition, connections is there 12v to purple wire on solenoid when cranking, get help here if required.

Re: 82 Cruiser Problems

Well, while trying to find out the problem of th vehicle, I ran into a couple of things. One, there is an exhaust pipe in the way of the starter, it was a bitch trying to get it out. So i remove the starter and the solenoid whole, took it to autozone and they tested it. positive. So i try to replace the starter and I had to part it in there, starter then the solenoid. So I turn the key and still nothing, no cranking at all, no turn over. I checked for the battery drainage and the lights work, the CEL is on, and the oil light showin. But no sound when i turn the key. Does anyone know of any ideas of what to check for next?

How about my previous suggestion about 12v on the purple wire to the starter, when trying to start, is it there? Are the fusible links coming off the starter harness intact? You really sound like you need on site help with this to properly check these circuits, no car alarm/cutoff right?

Re: 82 Cruiser Problems

Im going to look for the purple wire. Also the starter(silver part) the gold bolt coming out of it, that conects to the battery is lose from the starter, it moves in and out.
