Painting with nail polish

Hey all,
I've got a couple of questions when you use nail polish on car bodies.

1. How do I determan that its lacquer? Or are they all lacquers? I've seen some bottles say Nail Enamel, Nail Lacquer and some say nothing. That is what confuses me.

I am also getting a graining affect when I paint with NP.
I use a compressor that I am not able to regulate the pressure. So,
is there a way to eliminate the graining?

I've used search but wasn't able to find what I wanted.

Test various thinners, if enamel thinner can thin it then.. its enamel. If enamel thinner can't then its lacquer. I don't think there is an arcylic based nail color out there..
As for your AB Q's
1. Thin it down more.
2. I would strongly suggest you get a air pressure regulator or get a AB that lets you control the air flow.

On the nail polish bottle, look at the list of ingredients on the back. if it says nitrocelluosue as being part of the ingredients then this is a Lacquer. Pretty much they are all Lacquer based. Even if they say "Nail Enamel".

The graining is the paint actually drying before it hits the car body surface. Try and thin the paint a little more, I usally do a 1:1 paint to thinner ratio. Or look for the infamous "thin so it looks like milk when you let it run down the side of the glass paint jar"

Having no control over your air pressure is not that ideal either. I usally turn my air way down for nail polish, typically 10-15 psi (bottom feed airbrish), lower for gravity feed

Thank you guys for your responces. Ah ok "nitrocelluosue" is the key ingredient (sp?) for lacquer. Thanks.
