98 GS Driver Information Problem

Hi I have a 98 bucik regal gs with electronic dash. Anyways its gone on me and When I took it into the dealer they wanted to replace the whole cluster $$$. Well I wasn't willing to pay several hundred dollars to see how many miles I have left in my tank. So I was wondering if there was any known (normal) causes that can be fixed which causes these things to go? Basically I'm looking for any cure that doesn't involve me spending a what of cash to get a new one.

I hate to say this but the dealer is probably right on the diagnosis. DIC problems are typical within the IP cluster. What is the specific symptom?

Well the symptom is it doesn't turn on at all. Pretty bad diagnosis. Its so annoying because its not like I NEED it but not having it on the other hand is pretty stupid and I would hate to spend so much on something that is basically cosmetic. Well I guess its going to stay out of comission

Yeah, I know it is a bummer. About all I can suggest is to maybe pull the dash bezel and the IP to perform an inspection and make sure electrical connectors are tight. Also, check the fuse that feeds the DIC and make sure 12 volts is present at the fuse socket and input to the DIC display.
