TWO OBD codes (P0411 & P0139)

Hi,
My CIL was on a month back. I got it checked, it had code P0411, for which the guy said try tighting the gas cap.. and he reset it. Around 100 miles later it came back on again and this time it has two Codes:
P0411 Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow
P0139 Secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor (Secondary HO2S) Slow Response

Can anyone comment on if these codes could be related? I couldn't find much info on P0139..

Thanks,

The above two are for the air injection system error. I'd check for vacuum leaks, and replace any old/worn vacuum lines. Don't really know much about it other than what is said in those 2 threads. So perhaps something in one of them will help if it isn't a vacuum line problem....perhaps a broken/stuck valve in the system.

But yeah, it had nothing to do with hte gas cap...generally if the tech doesn't know what the code is, they usually tell you to tighten the gas cap, reset the ECU, and see if hte light comes back on.

The second code...it could be a bad o2 sensor on it's way out. However, I wouldn't be so quick to replace it. Being that the secondary air injection system is only on during cold start up conditions, and it not working, the result would be drastically different air/fuel ratios and oxygen readings at startup from what the ECU would think that 02 sensor should be reporting.
Since it only says slow start up, and not complete failure...I would think this code is a direct result of the initial problem (air injection system malfunction)

Hope that helps some.

Re: TWO OBD codes (P0411 & P0139)

Hi,
Thanks for information.

My car mechanic is saying that seconday air pump is bad and it costs 302$( plus labor). He is also mentioning that pump is repairable, he needs to replace some brushes. But he doesn't have it. He is offering right to put new pump in for now and when (10-15 days) he gets the brushes, he will put old pump back in.

Does it seem right? Or some build-up story?

Thanks,
