where's the button??
Okay, I was trying to respond to a question in the monte carlo forum and I am stumped. The question was about the button that makes the interior lights turn on/off when a door is open/closed. The reason he asked was because the interior lights came on when the passenger door was opened but not when the drivers door was opened.
I told him that in my '93 lumina the button is on the car where the door meets (at the hinge), he replied that he couldn't find it on his '95 monte carlo. Knowing that luminas and monte carlos are similar, I decided to look on my '99 lumina. I found no button. Does anyone know where it is??? I mentioned that my '99 has a feature that automatically turns the interior lights off if they are left on for more than ten minutes (and a door is left open). Perhaps that's why there is no button. If anyone has any info it would sure help.

It's part of the latch assembly

Re: where's the button??
Like supergumby said, the switch is part of the latch inside the door (the greasy piece that actually goes over the pin/striker in the door jam that holds the door closed). His issue could also be the chime/warning module going bad. When the chime module fails, it will allow you to turn the dome on/off manually, but it won't come on when you open/close the door. That's what happened in my Cavalier, until it got so bad the key/lights on dinger started going off randomly too.
