A Few Questions.

Hi, I'm from over in the Cavalier forum and I had a few questions about the 3000GT, or the GTO to be exact. Within a year or so, I should be able to get my hands on one, and I was wondering if some parts where interchangeable.

For instance, should I import a 99 GTO, would the parts be just the same as an American 99 3000GT? I didn't figure it being right-hand drive would change much.

Which transmission would be easier to work with? I would like to have a 6, but since the 5 seems to be more popular, there would be more mods ''available'' for it.

Lastly, does either car have the option to turn off the AWD, providing I got one instead of a FWD.

Thanks in advance, and feel free to add on.

Re: A Few Questions.

The 6 speed is the better choice, you can't get a real GTO with FWD, the parts are the same, and you should read the FAQ.

Also, welcome to our "special" section of AF.

Re: A Few Questions.

Why would want to go through the trouble of importing a GTO (assuming you live in the US) And what do you mean which tranny is easier to work with? when you say "availible mods" do you mean the 5 or 6 speed car or the actual tranny itself? If tahts the case the 6 speeds can have availble aftermarket billit shift forks lol. the 6 speeds come with stronger Output shfts for the t-case (someone correct me if i'm wrong)

The AWD is perment and yes parts are interchangeable

Re: A Few Questions.

I had briefly perused the FAQ, but didn't find any info on interchangeable parts. Also, thanks for the help. I was not overly concerned with the AWD. I thought I read somewhere, perhaps on a Skyline or something of the sort that the AWD could be turned off. On the transmission I meant things like shift, clutch, etc. kits.
I figured there would be more stuff for 5's, rather than 6's.

Re: A Few Questions.

6spd is better and you also get better gas mileage when on the highway...

Yes many parts are interchangable between Stealths and 3000gts of various years, however obviously not everything.

My question to you is, why waste money importing a GTO, the difference is negligible. Why spend all the extra money just for RHD?

Both are pretty much the same to work on in regards to difficulty. I don't know what gave you the impression the 5spds are more popular. They only had them for 3 years, the 6spds were for 6 years. And the only real advantage for the 5spds comes when you are pretty heavily modded nad drag racing.

As far as mods, both cars have equal amounts of mods for them. If you are talking about mods for the transmission, both have very few, and generally there are a few more mods for the 5spd, but that is because those mods address the weaknesses. The 6spds has less tranny mods, because it is stronger built to begin with.

I have never heard of an AWD car that does that, 4wd trucks yes, AWD sports cars...no. Some have hacked and welded their AWD into a RWD vr4. Others have done TT conversions to thier FWD SLs and base models. But generally if you get a vr4, it's AWD...and thats alot of hte fun. If you want a RWD or FWD car maybe you should be looking at something else.

Read the FAQ, there's alot in there, and this car is vastly different from a Cav.

Re: A Few Questions.

You wouldnt be able to legally get a GTO into the states anyway. It would cost 5 times as much as you could get a VR4 for just to get it here, then you wouldnt be able to drive it.

Re: A Few Questions.

US Spec 1999s look better anyways.

i know that the skyline is 100% RWD unless the rear loses traction...then power is sent to the fronts. Maybe thats what you were thinking of?
