open exhaust/electric exhaust cut out valve
Has anyone installed this on the gen III motor? Someone (not a VERY reliable source...haha) told me that I would "burn up the rings" if I ran near-open-headers on the truck. Does anyone know if this is safe?
Here is my initial plan: put hi-performance headers on, put the electronic cut-outs somewhere right before the cats, and keep the factory exhaust. I had also thought about putting some "purple hornies" glass packs on the cut-outs (to cut down on some of the harshness of open headers) What are ya'lls thoughts on my plan? I basically want to pull up to an intersection all quiet, open the cut outs (about a 25-30 hp gain!) and BAM! blow the doors off of a civic. one more: what will the stock gen III sound like with open headers?

Re: open exhaust/electric exhaust cut out valve
Im not sure about the 05, but my 97 has 4 O2 sensors. One before and after each cat. I would look into placing your cutouts after the cats. Your engine will like it better. If you do it before the cats, the ECM will go crazy.

Re: open exhaust/electric exhaust cut out valve
Now with my old 94 Caprice cop car, there were O2 simulators available if you wanted to remove the sensors. There maybe something out there for the modern Tahoe's.
The highflow cats would also work fine, but if you are going to keep the stock O2's, they need to be relocated in the stock locations. Do you know how many sensors you have on the 05?

Re: open exhaust/electric exhaust cut out valve
Yep, i just checked ebay, and those simulators are just kind of a generic thing, and they work for my truck. I havent had a chance to look for sensors, since I'm at work.
Now... I've been driving my boss' Avalanche around town alot lately, and he has the Magnaflow Cat-back system, and a K&N cold air intake. I'm trying to decide if I should get that system, (i have access to that type cheap) or if I should go with a custom system with one of the smaller, louder magnaflows... I have decided magnaflows have THE best sound out there. (I had 40 series FM and duals on my 2 door yukon)

Re: open exhaust/electric exhaust cut out valve
Look at a post I started about a FM catback system that im looking at buying soon. Its a nice set up for $269. I was also considering the K&N for the other end.
Where your truck is still under a factory warranty, I would stick with the stock parts. After the cats, it wont affect anything.
