fuel injector questions

I suspect that I have a leaky injector so a few questions:
1) I've read that injector cleaner is only good for preventing problems, not curing them. True or false?
2) In pursuit of the leaky injector, is it reasonable to buy a new one and begin swapping out injectors until I find the one that's leaking?
3) Any sketchy details on how to change and injector?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: fuel injector questions

I've checked out a few sites that offer injector cleaning services. You send in the entire set for cleaning and testing... probably what needs to be done with 108k on my vehicle. Any opinions or experiences?

Re: fuel injector questions

Why do you suspect leaky injector?
If you have a ODBII scanner you can check fuel the fuel trim settings.
If the trim is adding fuel you have a clogged injector, if the trim number is negative then you possibly have a leaking injector and the computer is trying to lean the fuel mixture out to compensate. Do the scan before you spend the $.

From this forum, I matched the symtoms of a leaky injector, i.e. fuel leaking into the engine after the vehicle is off and causing extended cranking upon restart after leaving the vehicle off for 20 minutes or more. It showed up about six months ago, most likely due to some fool's habit of running the tank down too low (guilty as charged). The more I think about it, the more I think I should have them all cleaned and checked vs. swapping in a new injector. Has anyone used a service like this or is there a good DIY method that would suffice?
