R34 Calsonic Skyline - Collection #2

After being out of modelling FOREVER I am finally back in a job that will allow me time to model so I broke myself back in with the 1/24 Tamiya Calsonic Skyline to go with the R33 I already have.
I am not going into super detail with this one as the R33 is built quite basic so here we go.

Suspension components ready to mount to chassis. I used Rover Taihiti Blue again on this to match the R33. Thank goodness Halfords still stock it. THeir cans of paint just get better, the pressure is awesome! The rear suspension is a lovely part with a lot of complexity and a great mix of colours!

The body polished with Polishing papers and black lined. I tried the other kit wheels for something different but I will build the kit with the correct rims once I get the Dremel back to paint the thin blue lines round the outer edge.

On to the interior today. I sprayed the dash and other X18 parts in Rover Charcoal which gives a good representation of Carbon Fibre without all the decal hassles.

Let me be the first to say "WELCOME BACK!" Good to see you're still kicking around!

It's just like riding a bike. I'm sure you'll be turning out new masterpieces like clockwork.

Re: R34 Calsonic Skyline - Collection #2

Thanks guys!
I think the car is classed as GT rather than group A. Can someone help on that?
Anyway, today's progress.
The dash again. You can just see the shift lights above the steering wheel and I added a few buttons. Make sure you get the angle on the column right as I had to redo mine as it was mounted pointing too high at first!

The centre column. I added Scale Details nut heads over the decal buttons to give depth. The electric cut off is just a piece of electric cable sleeve glued over the decal.

The race seat. I think this turned out really well. The seat is sprayed with VHT matt black which gives it a rough padded feel.
The harnesses are a mix of ACUSTATION PE, MODELLER'S sticky backed seat belt fabric and the kit decals.

Re: R34 Calsonic Skyline - Collection #2

Starting to come together now, the exciting part!

Mocking up the fit. The window rubbers came out great using Tamiya largest masking tape and a very sharp scalpel. Fine mists of TS-29 made sure nothing leaked under the tape. Does anyone know where the seat belts should mount. On the roll cage or to the back of the parcel shelf?

You can see the finish the Rover charcoal gives to the dash area

the JGTC Z's belts mounted to the shelf behind, so it might connect the same way on the GT-R.

Re: R34 Calsonic Skyline - Collection #2

Latest update after a good day working on the Skyline.

I posted this pic as it shows what happens if the rear of the body isn't mounted in the chassis properly! Far too high a ride height. So I have adjusted the rear. It stops any of the rear lip of the diffuser showing which doesn't seem right to me, but it's more important that the car sits right.

The wheels looked a bit toy like so I washed them using thinned X18 and shaded the inside to simulate the effects of brake dust, heavier at the front than the rear.

The AcuStation PE rear fuel fillers are nice, more of them later.

On to my favourite part now, decals!

I'm considering buying this kit very soon (or another JGTC kit) and what you've done is very good so far, though the spoiler looks off to me...
