Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

Hey all, only primed it so far. Bodykit isn't the best fit and plastic is pretty thin so I've got some gaps to fill in somehow. Kit instructions are in japanese too so going by the diagrams. I'm thinking a nice deep blue but depends on what's in my LHS. Any ideas?

Gotta wet & dry it down then apply final coats of primer.

Re: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

Lime green metallic, man. Can't go wrong with lime green...

This looks sweet so far, the front end recalls the new Skyline. I hate what they did to the GT-R, but on this is look cool. I'm not sure about those chunky additions to the fenders, but the rest of it I like. What's the rear end look like?

Re: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

Well, I was never a fan of green unless it's like British Racing Green. Candy red sounds good. Did a photoshop to get a glimpse of what lime green might be like.

Got some photos with final primer coat and wet & dry sanded with 1500 (highest I've got). Rims are from the box and I'm leaving them gold. Photos of rear too, as requested.

Still has quite a few imperfections and I've yet to try putty so is best I can do for now . Getting paint today so hopefully will have photos of it painted. (Sorry for so many of these primer phtos, I know you've all seen primer before )

Re: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

Take this as C+C....You have some work to do. If you would like....get some putty on that kit to clean it up a bit. Some sanding and smoothing is needed also on the front bumper. Then, you may be ready for paint. Depends on how far and how much time you are willing to spend on this model.

Re: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

Hey I'm open to all C&C or how else will I know what would be best ? You can see whitish highlights in the photos which isn't actually imperfections of the primer, but just dust from it not being washed after sanding. I know the front bumper (whole body really) needs more sanding so I'll be doing that tonight. As for some of the holes where the bodykit joins on...visited LHS today and no putty.

I'm thinking sealing the gaps by flooding it with some glue then applying one more coat of primer on top to smooth it out. What do you think? As for the colour...

... Despite not being fan of greens, I wanted this to kinda stand out and also thought it would be good experience to use candy colours. First time using Pearls too so I'm kinda nervous about ruining the result. Planned to have a cf bonnet too from SAS with some PE disk brakes but my PayPal account isn't co-operating . Going to try and hand-paint the drilled/slotted rotors.

Time to get sanding! Thanks for looking and the keep the C&C coming .

P.S. What would be best for the GT wing, Matt Black TS-6 or Black TS-14?

Re: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

I have used TS-52. Its just like the other Tamiya sprays. Mist coats! Just be patient. As for the Pearl Clear, I just recently bought some to try out, haven't used it yet. Just make sure, before you polish, use Regular clear (Tamiya) over top so you don't ruin the pearl. As for the paint on the wing, I just recently used Tamiya Gunmetal to imitate carbon fiber. I mean, if thats the look you want. Matt Black could look good also. Just go with your gut. Good luck, and have fun!

Final......Heat up the clear before you apply. Makes it lay out smoother.

Re: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

Just some progress. Actually loving this colour now. Made sure the body was baby smooth before I sprayed (I've noticed the re-sized photos seem grainy so don't worry it's not orange peel). Front bumper join was bugging me because it just would not improve, only get worse so I did as much as I could to it before I decide to spray. Still got the Pearl Clear to apply then a final coat of TS-13. Tamiya clear won't eat through my decals will it ?

Re: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-Concept

First off....WOW! Nice job on that green!!! Now, as far as the decals and the clear. What I did is this, I applied decals, use a q-tip and wipe away any residue or wet-ness from whatever you use to apply them. Then let it sit over night. Lightly and I mean LIGHTY...run water over the decals the next day. Then pat dry....the decals should be adheared pretty well if you apply them correctly. Now, I used Testors clear....A couple dust coats to "lock" the decals down. Then some medium and so on. Worked for me. But honestly, don't ruin that paint with "stickers" please! Its gorgeous!
