rear spring?

I had made a post about the creaking noise in my rear wheels and someone told me it was the rear spring which would cost about 400...The car has 242,000 miles on it and it still runs great but I'm not sure how much longer it'll last. Would it be worth the money to replace the rear spring or could I just milk it and go on with the creaky spring? I was told my engine will last about another year or two because the piston rings are slipping...Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Re: rear spring?

check the ends of your spring @ the knuckle.
Mine 'kreaked' before and the cheap rubber boot on the end was worn.
Bought a set of teflon blocks (from auto store) and installed them under the spring, ontop of the knuckle.
cheap easy fix and no 'kreaks'
hope this helps

Re: rear spring?

i've never really done work on my car...is this hard to do? i would assume that i would have to take the wheels off or something...could a mechanic do it for me or is it easy enough where i could do it?

It's easy,and no wheels don't come off.
I just took a couple blocks of wood on a jack and placed them near the end of the spring (on the spring only). Then gently rasied the spring. You only need to get the spring about 3/4 to an inch high to slip the blocks onto the knuckle area.

If your still unsure let a mechanic do it. Shouldn't be more than an hours labor max.
hope this helps.
