Outside temperature gauge - 2000 Camry
Gentlemen:
I recently had the "Check Engine" light come on in my 2000 Camry with 39,688 miles. I took it to the local dealer and they did a comuter check and said "The light is now off but you may need a vacuum switching light on the airbox if it comes on again." About a week later I pushed the button on the clock to check the outside temperature, and the car thermometer read 77F when the thermometer at my home read 90F. The car thermometer has always been very accurate before now. My question is, has resetting the Camry computer had anything to do with the outside temperature gauge in the car now being off by 13F, or is there no connection with the temperature gauge and Camry computer? I also wonder what they did to turn the Engine light off. The invoice simply says "CK ENGINE LIGHT ON CK AND ADVISE." Thanks in advance for any comments. |

Did they tell you what the exact code was?

Re: Outside temperature gauge - 2000 Camry
Thanks for your quick reply.
No, they did not tell me what the exact code was, only that the "CELO Diagnosis was the vacuum switching valve on airbox may need to be replaced at a cost of $122" if the light comes on again. I thought it might have just been something like the oxygen sensor in the exhaust emissions control was dirty, or bad. I don't have any idea what the vacuum switching valve on the airbox does! |

Re: Outside temperature gauge - 2000 Camry
Welcome to the AF!
Is it possible you measured the inside temperature of the car instead of the outside temperature? Many temperature readouts have the option of monitoring either one.

Re: Outside temperature gauge - 2000 Camry
No, it is not possible to measure the temperature inside the car on the 2000
Camry LE. The only choices on the dashboard clock are, time, temp F and temp C. When you first turn on the ignition you get the time. When you push the button one time you get external temp F, the 2nd time external temp C, and the third time back to clock time. Both the degrees F and C are off. |
