Possible way to wire?

Is it possible to wire interior neons to the button inside of the door near the hinges that make the interior lights go on? Basically turning the neons on when opening the door and shutting them off when closing the door, and also while wiring up a switch as well to turn them on/off?

Re: Possible way to wire?

yea just spice the sotck switch and run your wires through there, just wires yourself up a switch inline with it first, that way you got full rage. I can better explain it if you want

Re: Possible way to wire?

Please do in detail because I have NO idea what you just said lol, "stock switch" meaning the button thing inside the door? And I don't know what inline means when referring to wiring, I know nothing about wiring or electrical.

Re: Possible way to wire?

Ok heres one idea (and someone correct me if I am wrong) you could locate the push switch that is in the door that you are looking for and find the power wire. Then get yourself a three pronge switch, one will me ground the other will be hot and the other will be either acc. hot or some other name in other workds hot=red ground=black and the third pronge is green wire.

take and get a splicer and splice into the door switch and take the hot wire form there and take it to the hot side of the other switch, then take a ground wire and go from the switch to somewere metal, then take the power wires from the neon's and run to the green side of the switch. You can either ground the neons to something metal or run then to the same metal spot that you grounded the switch.

If this make any sense it should be if the switch is on then when you open the door the neon's will come on and the normal interior lights but when you turn the switch off (during the day i suppose) then the neon's will not come on but you will still have normal lights.

Does that help or are you still lost.

That is the easiest way to do it, there are a few other ways but this will get the job done

Re: Possible way to wire?

^yeah i pretty much think that would work. lance if you attempt this feel free to let us know how it works.

EDIT: just out of curiosity, how come you want to wire them that way??? why not save the trouble and hook them up to a toggle switch?

Re: Possible way to wire?

IMO it would be REALLY cool to open the doors up at night and have the whole interior light up red automatically.

I pretty much understand, can somebody send me a pic of what a splicer looks like? Yeah I know it's sad.

My goal was to have the neons light up when I opened the door and shut off when I close it, while having a toggle switch to turn on/off whenever, doors shut or open. Will this set up allow that? Or will the power totally cut off when the doors are shut?

when you do a splice it pretty much means cutting into an exsiting wire so that its exposed and then sodering the new wire right to it.

yeah that would be pretty cool to have it all light up. im not sure if doing that setup would allow you to toggle the lights on an off once the door is shut. good question.

Re: Possible way to wire?

Hmm actually, i dont see why it couldnt work. Just would have to have 2 diffrent power sources. One being controled by the door switch, and the other being controlled by another switch. I dunno what that would do if they were both being applied at the same time, but thats what guess and check is for. hahah jk jk, im sure someone knows a way around it.

yeah a T-splice is basically removing the rubber material from an exsiting wire so thats its exposed and sodering the new wire to it.
