94' V-8 oil leak at oil filter
Group,
I have a 94’ Sedan Deville that continues to leak oil from the oil filter. The car has 95,000 miles on it, but I have only owned it since 87,000 miles. I had the oil changed at a dealer, and I have changed the oil once. But, each time the oil filter still leaks? I have checked for nicks and rough spots on the oil filter seat, but see nothing that would cause a leak. Is this a common defect on the 94’ V-8 engine? If so, what is usually the cause if it is not the oil filter/seat? And, what is the fix?

Re: 94' V-8 oil leak at oil filter
Is it the filter itself or the fittings near it. There are a couple of O rings in the fittings which can be troublesome. Remove the entire air filter assembly so you can get a good look. BTDT with the same sort of leak and snugging up on the fittings just a tad stopped it.
FWIW YMMV |

Just be careful with those fittings, they can crack if they are tightened too tight.
I would check for the oil lines near the housing as well. The seals do tend to leak as they get old, and they can be a pain to change.

DFBonnett and caddydaddy,
Thanks for the insight. I have yet to disassemble anything, but now that I have a lead I can take a look.
