Ever Seen This Computer Code?

The computer module light (looks like an engine) came on my wife's 2001 Concorde this weekend (solid, not flashing). My son had put gas in it a couple days earlier, so I figured it might be thrwoing the code because of a loose cap. The light went off after a couple of miles driving. Then yesterday it came back on (solid, not flashing). On the way this morning to get my mechanic to read the code, it went off again. They put the computer on it and it showed this code: "Internal Control Failure". Told me I would need to see the dealer about diagnosing it. They cleared the code and we'll see if it comes back on. But we have a 600+ mile trip planned in a couple of weeks and not sure about going off in a "test" mode. Just wondering if anyone has run across this code and what problems are associated with it.

The PCM is covered under a fed emissions warranty for 8K or 8 years.
Calf emissions may be more.
What is the code no and engine and mileage on yours?

Re: Ever Seen This Computer Code?

It's code 601. My wife said the car started jumping this afternoon on the way home. Have a Thursday appointment setup. Thanks for confirming the 8K,80000 miles warranty. We just replaced my daughters cat converter on her 2002 Alero and were pleased to find that it was covered also. Mileage on the Concorde is 76,253 so we need to find out what it is. When you said "PCM" , what is that an acronym for? I hope this is a cat problem so it will becovered under warranty.

One last question... is it possible the place we get fuel at (not a national dealer) could be contributing to this problem? Odd if it turns out to be the cat converter that my daughters and my wifes car would do that.

The PCM is the Powertrain control module or computer /the big main brain in there.
Gas additives could have some affect on cats and 02 sensors.
But not on the code 601 on the Concorde is a internal computer fail code.
You are luckie.
You are still covered on the warrant on it untill 80K
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: Ever Seen This Computer Code?

Well it was the computer that was the problem. It is covered under warranty (8 yr/80000 mile). The bad news.. they found the problem on Friday and found out that they are on nationwide backorder. (I'm one of 3 on backorder) We are supposed to be leaving Thursday for a trip and still not sure if it will be here. Today they said they "hoped" the computer would be here tomorrow or Wednesday. Try explaining to your wife that Chrysler themselves are out of stock of anything

Re: Ever Seen This Computer Code?

Computer came in yesterday, was replaced yesterday and all is running fine. Just in time to take it out on a planned trip.
