Ridiculous project for 2006: Rally Diorama

I've been out of modeling since about February..I haven't touched a kit since. In the meantime I picked up a Ferrari 612, but it didnt have any tires in the box so the kit saw no progress. As of recent, modeling has sparked my interest again, and i've spent more money than I should have ordering some kits. Which of course brings me to the biggest project i've ever done. (And the most ridiculous.)

The plan? Operation:Privateer Rally Team Diorama

What I have on hand:
2x Team Cars
1x Team Hauler
1x Rally Mechanics Set

The Rally Cars?

WRX STi WR Limited.

WRX STi Spec C.

I've also got a 1/24 MAN TG-X truck on it's way along with Tamiya's Rally Mechanics Set.

I plan to turn these street cars into mild rally cars, perhaps something close to the WRC's PWRC class. The hauler will sit in the backdrop of a scratch built tent. One of the cars will be under repair, surrounded by the rally mechanics, as the second car will be ready to roll.

What I'd Like to Attain:
-Driver Figures
-Trailer for the MAN Truck.

What I need input on:
Decals that may look good for the rally cars.
Anything else to improve the realism.

Questions, comments...am I crazy perhaps?
I'm looking forward to getting started!

Re: Ridiculous project for 2006: Rally Diorama

Cool! I'm in the process of turning the Fujimi 1/24 Subaru New Impreza WRX STi Spec C into a Group N12 rallycar. I got some detail pictures of the inside and from the underside as reference (also check this link). The stuff I'm going to change are:
  • move steering wheel from right to left (already did that)
  • remove rear couch/seats and replace with plastic sheet.
  • Build complete rollcage
  • make new exhaust
  • lot's of small things in cockpit (pedal-box, fire-extinguisher, extra meters on dashboard).
  • Replace front-seats with rally-seats.
  • a lot of small things I forgot here.
Perhaps it gives you an idea of what (I think) has to be changed.

Wow, this might become a very interesting build.

I think that this project would make a great diorama, a bit similar to the fantastic diorama of Rtuned (JGTC project).
I'll sure be following this closely.

Re: Ridiculous project for 2006: Rally Diorama

Any ideas where I can find a trailer in 1/24 to fit the cab?

How about this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Italeri-1-24-Sub...QQcmdZViewItem

I know that Italeri also makes "stand-alone" trailers. So maybe if you search for this brand you might find what you need.
But the trailers I've found so far are more like fuel trailers or refrigerated trailers, so you'll probably have to purchase the whole set as shown on eBay.
That would by the way also provide you with a Scania truck as aeroace mentioned.

Use these plans to make one out of paper? Or out of styrene stock if you want to be REALLY ridiculous?

It's about due time to get started, i'm still trying to gather some references. I wonder what i'm going to do about decals though...I don't have the equipment to make my own.

I picked up the Italeri Subaru WRC Truck and Trailer Kit about a year ago for $45 shipped from ebay! It's still sitting brand new in my room...I'm scared of it. Good luck with your diorama!

Don't be so scare of it, I build it and it's an ok build... Only the cab portion of the truck is tricky cause the instructions says to paint it before you assemble it, I can tell you that withsome planning in advance, it's possible to assemble the cab partialy and paint it before final assembly.

go ahead, try it, you'll be glad you did!

sorry for the out of subject, now back to it...
