I have a 93 mustang lx 2.3 4 banger, and I am havin some problems with it... When i first start the car, it turns off after two seconds unless i rev the engine, when i accelerate the car accelerates really rough, then when I am at a stop light, it will shake really bad. The rpm's go all over the place and i am just out of ideas as to what the problem is... help please?

Re: 93 mustang rough acceleration, idle, and starting

I had the same problem with mine and finally changed the tfi and did a world of difference for a few weeks.. now there is another problem when starting out feels like there is no fuel getting to the injectors... press pedal to the floor and hardly any power. im thinkin fuel system? whats the best way to checkthe fuel pump? would a pressure gauge do the trick? could it possibly be the filter? any help here greatly appreciated. i have changed both coil packs new plugs and wires, tfi throwing a code which says firing order isnt right... maybe not getttin fuel to certain cylinders? thanks again

just changed fuel filter as a start. now throwing codes starting with 172 hego sensor? then 538 536 521 should i start with the o2 sensor first?

thanks

check the idle settings those could be off and could make that happen i would think. Also the shaking could be from the wires and plugs like the guy above said and you might want to check the mounts.

Re: 93 mustang rough acceleration, idle, and starting

when was the last time the timing belt replaced? how many miles are on your car? odds are it's not the o2 sensor. the other codes are saying that part of the test wasn't done or it didn't read them. i just did a scan on my car as i am having some of the same problems you are. you might want to chesck the egr system and see if the ports are clogged up. when you figure out what is wrong with your car please post what it was. also it seems people on the ranger fourm are having the same issues with this engine. it could be just about anything.

Re: 93 mustang rough acceleration, idle, and starting

just got the reply to mine.. i changed the hego sensor and works fine. the timing belt was replaced just before i got the car, has 132,000 miles.. just had the tranny done over. everything seems to almost fine runs good although at times when the defroster or blower is running the rpms seem to go low, and then a rough idle at stops, turning off the blower seems to do the trick but no one has of yet helped meo ut on this one. i have seen alot of problems out there likethis but seems no two have been the same fix.
thanks..

by anychance does your voltage drop as well when the blower is on? i know mine does. i will try replaceing the sensor on my car and see if that helps. i'm wonder how many people are going through the same thing with their cars.

Re: 93 mustang rough acceleration, idle, and starting

not sure what year you car is but it may not be any easy change i had to remove the exhaust to get the sensor out, which then had to have it rethreaded. and yes my voltage drops as well, i spent a lot of time reading and reading and changing parts and nothing to fix it as of yet.. let me know if you find out what it is or i'll do the same.. and yes there are alot out there that have the same problems i have noticed since surfing the forum sites.. but hey alot of times ive gotten some good info and tips on how to fix or replace something so keep looking and be patient although its hard to do sometimes
