More horsies please.

I'm a n00b, and i understand if people want to kill me for asking this. I recently purchased my '98 Grand Prix GT (V6 3800 series II) about two months ago and know little to nothing about my automotive mechanics. This cars turned into my project learning car. Im wondering what a good way to start upgrading the vehicles performance would be. I absolutely love this car, and it is like a child to me; however I'm getting mighty sick of guys in Honda's kicking my ass. Any popular books or articles to read, or relatively simple upgrades to start tinkering with would be greatly appreciated. thanks much fellas.

Re: More horsies please.

There are a host of options for the L36 engine that can get you more power. A DHP reprogrammed PCM will do a lot for a little money. However, you really need to add a couple of Mods along with it. First, a cold air intake will get more air into the system and make some HP. The next thing is to open up the exhaust. If you have the money go with a set of headers but at a minimum remove the U-bend located behind the cat. This will allow the engine to breathe better and increase performance. A set of rocker arms 1.8 ratio will give you some extra power as well. If you really want to get into it pull the engine apart and install a new camshaft. If you know very little about cars this one is not recommended for the novice. I hope this helps.
