gas smell

I noticed it started two days ago that when im driving on the expressway and get off the expressway and drive normal speed... I get the smell of gas in the air-con. It last awhile then goes away.. but comes back ever once in awhile... any ideas of what it can be??? Sometimes it is a light smell.. other times a strong smell...
