Auto-trans shifter not locking

I recently noticed removing my key from the ignition sticks. The shifter doesnt lock in park anymore (the steering wheel does though) The car is a 98 Camaro V-6 Automatic with 77,000 miles.

I'm assuming that it's a console shift (on the floor). There is a cable that runs from the shifter to the transmission, but there's also a linkage that goes from the transmission shift lever to the column as on a column-shift and if this is either removed or maladjusted, it can/will result in the shifter not locking up with the key. There might also be a linkage to the brake pedal, check this too.
