Here's a tough one

Camaros and Firebirds(4th gen), I haven't seen a true comparison yet for these cars. What's really the difference? Is it only skin deep? Popularity? Does one drive more well? Handle better? Functionality? They might just be the same.

Re: Here's a tough one

I think it mostly comes down to looks, and I personally like the Firebird's look much better.

Re: Here's a tough one

firebirds may be about .05 faster in a 1/4 on average because pontiacs have slightly better build quality than chevy on the GM food chain. seems like all the stock firebird vs camaro vids i see the firebird/ta wins by a foot or so,, maybe that's just my imagination tho since i'm obviously partial to pontiacs

Uhh...I would think chevy had the better build quality. Or is it that pontiac looks to compete with the camaro because chevy has the Corvette? Now I'm all confused.

Yup, from all the stuff i've seen, the pontiac just slightly edges out the camaro, i dont really know why, perhaps a better exhaust?

WS6 wins it for me.

98blacktransam, mind me asking how much was your car? Mileage?

Re: Here's a tough one

There is guy in my city who drive and LS6. His tag reads, LASTLT1. The significance of that is lost on most but I find it very cool.

I could be wrong, but I thought the Firebird had a transmission that was slightly different than the Camaros. With 1st being slightly smaller and 5th being slightly taller. It could explain why it's a little quicker off the line and has a slightly better top end. But it's a rumor I heard and we all know about them.

Re: Here's a tough one

Alright, granted Pontiac made the better cars- the grand prix, the firebird. The F-Body uses the same exhaust system, the same suspension, the same tranny. It's funny that you all like the trans am more because the TA people once said the camaro was a hell of a lot more popular.

i got it from a small car lot in mooresville, guy was asking $10k and i got him down to $8.9k with 80,000 miles. car runs like new tho (well slightly faster than new ) and it's in great shape inside and out. it was a company car before i got it so it wasnt a redneck beater like some of the ones i test drove .

yeah i do see a lot more comaros around here than firenirds/ta's. they're so close i performance that it really just comes down to preference of style.

Re: Here's a tough one

I don't see why you'd even bother debating which had better build quality. The quality on both cars was atrocious.

The Firebird/Camaro were never supposed to be about quality in the first place, they were cheap sports cars for the masses.

Either way, the Firebird is many times over the better looker, so I choose that.

Yeah, i am looking to get a new car pretty soon, and that is def at the top of my list, but im looking for lower miles and manual, which is gonna up the price. Hopefully by not too much tho, since my limit is prob 15k. Im hoping i dont run into any redneck beaters, but there are alot around here.

I actually just had a race with a camaro and a firebird 2 nights ago. Both cars were tons faster then me naturally, but the camaro was ahead by a car length by 80. Driver disparity

my one bit of advice no matter what model/year you get is to get one that's bone stock down to the air filter. the reason that a lot of the guys with the heavily modded f-bodies sell them is because they can't afford the repairs after they've abused the shit out of 'em turned them into pieces of crap. i've seen it first hand on a handful of occasions when i was ta shopping.
