Drifting on Tv

I was watching the drifting competion( I can't remember what it's called but I know it's the big one in the states) on Speed the other day, I didn't catch all of it but I did watch some of it. Anyway, the drifting competion they have here in the states is mostly japanese drivers in their respective cars, and there are very few americans in it. The judges are all japanese and it seems like it's a big event in the drifting community internationally. Anyway, I noticed a few things when watching that, last years winner was an american driving what? An 05 Mustang Supercharged GT. Does that seem wierd to you, that one of the crappiest handling cars (mustangs mostly in general) won the title last year? And the same guy was back this year with the same car, as well as a few other cars, one that looked like a bad ass 69 camaro (why he was drifting it I have no idea) Anyway, I jsut wondered if anyone else thought that was wierd. I'm going to try and see if I can find out who won this year.

ALSO on another note

In two weeks I am moving to Melbourne FL. I know some of you live in the Florida area. I would love to meet up sometime after I get there and have lunch or something. Please leave me a message here or send me a pm with some contact info and maybe we can set something up for the few of us in Florida to have a lunch or do something.

Re: Drifting on Tv

Those crazy Japanese Sometimes, having a crappy handling car can mean an easier way to initiate a drift.. plus throwing weight around would also do the trick. Yup, a combination of a heavy car and even the slightest amount of torque (let alone a supercharger!) can get the thing sideways. Although handling is really important, from my experience, I find that getting a car to get loose is usually the bigger challenge on some cars, so if you can get it sideways, you can drift I guess.. the only trick is to keep it sideways..

..but anywho, were you possibly watching D1? The judges are usually biased, I must admit. What Japanese anime/manga/story have you ever heard of, where it has the underdog lose? Haha, you know exactly what I mean!

That it was. It was D1. I don't watch anime, but in my thinking I would think the judging would be more skewed to the japanese considering the judges are japanese.

I used to love watching Formula D. It used to come on G4. Does it still come on?

Re: Drifting on Tv

With most of those guys that are in D1 they have so much money that they can make any car that is rear wheel drive drift pretty well...especially those with a lot of tq....like the mustang you saw....I know that there is also a Charger, and a Viper that have been doing really well in that series...

I don't really recall. I just know it was cool as hell to watch.

There were a bunch of old shitty Corollas there were kicking ass.
