Stabilizer bar/control arm linkage
Have a 92 PA I bought used, still finding the things wrong with it...
Heard a "jingle" as it would go over bumps, quickly found what the problem was... there is a bolt that holds the stabilizer bar to the control arm, which normally has bushings and washers in between, and all bushings are GONE on BOTH sides, I assume they have rotted away. So, I looked on partsamerica.com and found something called a stabilizer bar link kit, which appears to have a set of bushings and washers along with a bolt, which I assume would be what I need. However, I don't have a picture in my Haynes manual of how they fit together (what goes in what order). Anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks. |

Re: Stabilizer bar/control arm linkage
It should be a mirror image of the other side. Might as well replace both sides while your'e at it anyway.

Re: Stabilizer bar/control arm linkage
Well, you see, that's the problem. They're gone on both sides, so I don't have a good one to look at...

Re: Stabilizer bar/control arm linkage
Actually, it was pretty obvious once I got the repair kit:
Bolt head, washer, bushing, control arm, bushing, washer, metal spacer tube, washer, bushing, stabilizer bar, bushing, washer, nut. To replace, I jacked up the car, put on jackstand, removed the tire. Sprayed some liquid wrench on the nut, jacked up the control arm to remove the load on the bolt, and removed with a couple of socket wrenches, one on the nut, one on the bolt. Just in case anyone else happens to need the info. |

Re: Stabilizer bar/control arm linkage
Both were missing? Dang...someone hit some mighty big potholes
I'm glad you found that they were easy to guess for assembly. About how much does the whole kit cost? I'm going to have to replace them on a LeSabre that I'm getting here in a month or so....

Re: Stabilizer bar/control arm linkage
Big bucks, get your wallet ready... $6.50 each.
I got the TRW part at Advanced Auto (in stock), and it's called both Stabilizer Bar Link Kit and Sway Bar Link Kit. Includes the bolt, washers, spacer, and bushings.
