Thumbs down EGR Valve Melted

My 94 Ford Taurus just stop running as I was driving down the highway. Once the car shut off the temp gauge pegged out at Hot and smoke came out from under the hood. The EGR valve was smoking and was melted which melted the connector to it. I have purchased a new EGR valve but I will have to get a connector from the Ford dealership or a salvage yard. My question is why did this happen and what is the likely-hood that the new EGR valve will fix my problem. Thanks to anyone who can help!!

Re: EGR Valve Melted

There was a seemingly similar post awhile back (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ht=EGR+melted). You may want to private message the author of that post to see if he found the source of his problem.

Depending on if your valve itself melted, or if it was the DPFE sensor that melted, the problem could be a loose electrical connection that overheated (I don't think there would be enough current available to do that) or a lean condition that caused the exhaust to get EXTREMELY hot.
