95 Galant S Tranny problems

Ok I have a 95 Galant that just out of the blue the Tranny started messing up on. At first it was just started slipping while I was driving, then it would just lose Drive all together then work again. Everything was be fine if I had the Overdrive off (at this point it was only drive that was messing up). So I dropped it by a mechanic and then we went to pick it up and on it's way home it lost everything. Now it's stuck at the house. I read a post on here that sounded similar to my problems and they thought it could have been the Torque converter on their car. Could that also be the case for me or is my tranny gone? Please help
