help electrical

My wife stated our 89 caprice classic. She then turned on the AC then when she started to put the power windows up the engine shut off and now I have no ignition lights or radio or power windows. Tried to find the fuseable link under the hood (if that is my problem ??), but could not. I HAVE head lights and dome lights but no ignition lights. help please.

Re: help electrical

Chances are that a fusible link or its connections have failed. There should be at least one fusible link at the starter (usually 3-4) and another at the bulkhead connector outside of the firewall. My guess is that you'll find the problem close to the starter.

Re: help electrical

I was looking and the starter looks like it is under the car. Do I have to look for this fusible link under the car or is there a better way ??
Sorry I do not have a book.

The fusible link will be likely attached to the solenoid, so you will have to check under the car. It is on the passenger side of the engine.

Re: help electrical

Thanks, found it. What a place to try to get to. Seems like I can only get one hand up there. It had troubles before as it was taped together and the tape and the twisted part of the wires were burnt, fell off in my hand. I put the wires together temp to raise the power windows and then it quit. Hope to go at it again Wed. night. What a hard place to get at when laying on your back under the car. Still, what a dumb place to put it.
