No cold air or hot air coming out.
I have a 97 GA GT. When I first got it recently there was cold air when the AC was on. I noticed it wasn't cooling as well about a month later. Now it really doesn't work well almost feels like no cold air is coming out.
The first thing I thought of was the system needed to be recharged, but I turned the control to the hot side and the air never really changed temperature coming out of the vents. The compressor sounds like it comes on when I turn the A/C on. Could it possibly be the thermostat gone bad? The temp of the car is fine pretty much just under 1/2 way up the gauge. TIA for the help |

Re: No cold air or hot air coming out.
Add more air to the system. my mom has a 2000 grand prix and her pump still kick on and nothing would come out. So i put more air in the system and it works perfectly now. You can get all the stuff you need at wal-mart or any auto parts store. You will need about 3 cans of r134a and a hose. Hope it works for you like it did for my moms car.

Re: No cold air or hot air coming out.
It could be you need more r134a, but it's odd that the temperature does not change regardless of where you have it set. The thermostat regulates how much coolant passes through the system, but it should not affect whether you get cold air with the A/C on. Can you tell whether the air is getting redirected over the heater core when you turn the temperature toward hot? You can usually hear a difference in the airflow as you move from cold to hot. If not, you could have a bad vacuum tube that is not directing the air properly as you adjust the temp. It could also be a combination of problems including being low on r134a when you want to cool, and not having air pass over the heater core or having a blocked heater core when you want to heat.

Re: No cold air or hot air coming out.
Hey I can hear a difference when I switch to hot vs cold. I will try the r134a suggestion. Didnt know you could get that and do it yourself.

Re: No cold air or hot air coming out.
Those gauges are trickey you have to push down on the part that hooks up to your compressor and hold down the trigger. That worked for me.

Wal Mart DEATH KITS You cannot properly and safely recharge an air condition system with them. The one side stop and go gauge does not tell you what your system is doing or is over charged or undercharged. A overcharged or malfunction air condition system can reach over 500 lbs of pressure. Enough to blow up that can or system and freeze you at first and the burn you or blind you and if any propane /butane in there blow and light you up. The stop leak crap and who knows what kind of oil in the kits there will stop your system for sure. Just like pouring super glue in it. And some kits even contain freon with a butane mixer. Good for a big blast. If you are going to do it do it right and safe. Here is what you need to start with. http://www.ackits.com/merchant2/merc...uct_Code=66773 In the older days you could just throw in a can and go. But over the years just adding freon is getting harder to do. Newer systems have to have the correct amount of freon down to the ounces. Most will need pumped down and vacuumed down and the right and amount of oil and a set amount freon charge installed to get the air to cool right and the system to last. If an air condition is low there is usually a leak that needs fixed and also a lose of lubricating oil from system. Also air and moisture enters a low system If you are going to try to do it get the proper type air condition gauge set with the low and high side gauges. Hook up the gauges and get a reading with compressor running at idle and at 2000 rpm on the high and low side. Post back pressure reading and we can help you. MT

Re: No cold air or hot air coming out.
mdapsey, you put the R-134a into your system ?
Has it been converted or something, because your 94' should of had r-12
