Looking into it
Well first of all i will admit I was on the dark side for awhile, and that Fix Or Repair Daily BS was driving me nuts cause i was always workin on the damn thing. So Ive decided that I want to sell my Thunderchicken and I REALLY want a third-gen IROC-Z or Z28. So I have a fdew questions for you. What years was the TPI available and is it only on the 5.0L or can you get it on the 350? Are there any major things I should look for when shopping for one? Thank guys. Apprecaite any feedback I can get.

Re: Looking into it
The TPI was offered from 85-92
You can get it in both 305 or 350. Try to look more for the 90-92 ones as they had a higher HP rating than the earlier ones..

Re: Looking into it
Another little question for you.... I Heard that you cannot get a 5 spd with the 350. Is that true? I also heard that you cant get it with the 305 TPI engine either. I know everything is swapable but I would prefer not to do that if possible. So basically my ideal Camaro would be either an '89 IROC-Z with the 350 TPI and a 5 spd or a '91-'92 Z28 with the 350 and a 5 spd.

350 did not, only came with the auto. From what I understand, the 5 speed wasn't strong enough to withstand the 350. I have heard of people swapping the 5 speed into the 350's and it holding up fine, but I'm not sure as to how long it would last. Probably depends on your driving habits.

Re: Looking into it
Look for a 90-92 with the 305 with dual cats and a 5 speed. The dual cat 305 was rated at 230 hp, while the 350 (auto only) was rated at 245 hp.
As far as "fixing or repairing daily"...well, you aren't going to get away from it with one of these cars. They are old and were usually owned by someone that didn't take care of it. While they don't suffer from the problems that the fords did right from the factory they will have old age problems of their own. |
