removing 4.6L trany shift linkage

I swapped out a 4.6L engine from a 91 Crown Vic into a 93 Licoln Town Car. Now I have a problem with the trany linkage. On the Lincoln the link goes down, on the crown vic it went up... does anybody know how I may go about removing it? I'm not sure if I'm calling it the right name or not, it's the bracket that selects the gears on the automatic trany. It has what looks to be a sqaured nut on the end of it. I can't figure out how to remove it for the life of me... please help

Sounds to me like the "(TR) Transmission Range Sensor".

Check >>> here <<<. On that www page, links to PDF's, the first link describes the TR Sensor. Page 6-9 of 9 shows the removal / adjustments.

Re: removing 4.6L trany shift linkage

thanks for the reply town car unfortunately thats not whats wrong, i need to remove the shift linkage on the trany. It's a peice of metal about 3 inches long that looks like it bolts inside the trany. It's the metal peice the trany cable moves to select the gears. If only I need the technical name for it

Yeah, now I see what you're talking about. It's called "the Manual Control Lever"

You have to drop the Pan, the nut that holds it in; is inside the Trannie.

Did you get this to work the 91 should be a AOD and the 93 should be a AODE. In 92 the TC's switched to AOD(E) means electric. Just curious.
