First Kill with the "Rolla

Last night I was out with about 3 other kids just drivin' around. It was a 93 Corolla, a 95 Jetta 2.0, 1997 Accent GT and a 2000 2.0 Golf(the same kid who has the 20th Anniv. GTi, parents are loaded). It was me and the Accent up front with the Jokeswagen's(j/p) behind us. The first light we got to I asked GT(wut we call the kid that drives the Accent) if he wanted to run. It was about 11:30 I'm not even sure but he said yea. I put my car in L and just waited(Accent is a 5-speed so he was revvin the shit outta it) the light turned green and I just floored it. GT lauched his car pretty good. I shifted to 2 at 5600(or close to it). GT stayed with me all through first gear a lil' bit of second but 97 horsepower just ain't gonna cut it. We ran up to about 85 and by then I had 2.5 cars on him. He was cool about itbut he thinks I have something done to the 'Rolla because I pulled on him after 2nd easy. I told him just because his car is 16-valve DOHC it don't mean it's fast but he thinks it makes his car quick. Anyways first kill. A 97 Accent GT. It doesn't even feel right to brag about.

Re: First Kill with the "Rolla

The kid is 17 has a 01-02 Golf 2.0 and a 2003 GTi cars were both paid for with cash and he drives them both so they must both be registered and insured. I know he paid $18,000 for the GTi and the other one was his first car. He definately has $$$ to have to both cars on the road and insured.

Re: First Kill with the "Rolla

Sports, it is better to just leave it in D. Your car will shift to second just above 50, to 3rd at 80-85, and to 4th at 120 (i have heard if you are going that fast you just hold OD off until 130 then let it shift so it doesnt drop rpm's so much)

Re: First Kill with the "Rolla

Well I'm 99% sure L is 1st when starting from a dead stop and the 1.8 in the 'Rolla makes 115 at 5600 so anything after that is losing power so I don't see anypoint in running it to redline. The 'Rolla is L2DNRP. One thing I like about GM cars if the automatic shift selection. On most of their 4-speed autos they have 123DNRP. It's almost like having a manual tranny without the clutch except downshifting is kinda different.

Re: First Kill with the "Rolla

1969CamaroSS350, you should let your car do all the shifting, it shifts where it does for a reason. You have to let it climb through the rpm's. Even though it makes its PEAK hp at 5600 you should let it rev higher so when it shifts it stays in its power band, and it wont drop off too much after 5600 anyways. I think you should take a look at a dyno sheet from a car just like yours, then you could see the power curve and see where it makes good torque and good hp and compare it to your current shift points and where the car shifts itself.

Re: First Kill with the "Rolla

Well I plan on running the car a couple times next month at New England Dragway Test n' Tune just to see what it'll do. I know its not that fast but I just wanna know where I am with it. I'll probably run it with me shifting and then letting the car shift itself.
