Rear Windows only work from driver door

The rear windows on my wife's 2000 LeSabre can only be controlled using the driver door master control. The rear windows can be locked on the driver door panel, but the button is in the "off" position. I checked the DIC, and they are not turned off there either. It is not a big issue, more of a nusance. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Since both rear windows will not operate individually with its own switches, yet operate with the driver door controls, you know that the driver door module (DDM) is communicating across the simple serial bus to the rear door modules. If you're sure that the lock-out switch is indeed in the off position, I would suspect the DDM or poor connections of the driver control assembly with the module. A Tech 2 scanner could be used to monitor the status of all the inputs from the DDM and the rear door modules.

This is the first that I've heard of a piece of equipment that will scan power window circuits. What exactly is a Tech 2 scanner?
(Multi-meter?, Actron code scanner?).

It's a dedicated GM scanner which can look at all modules such as the PCM, ABS, body and chassis modules. It's the same scanner that the GM dealership uses. If you want to learn more about them you can go to www.vetronix.com They are expensive, but it allows one to look at every input and output that's on a GM vehicle. On the vetronix site, you can acquire just the tool or you can get it with SPS software which allows updates to the tool and allows one to reflash the PCM and other modules with updated calibration files. Be sure to look at the product demo which will allow you see what capability the tool has.

A cheaper alternative is using software from http://www.autoenginuity.com/ with a laptop. It has the same capability as the Tech 2 with bi-directional support if the manufacturer enhanced software is purchased.

Since I like to work on my own cars and favor GM vehicles, I purchased a Tech 2 couple of years ago.

Re: Rear Windows only work from driver door

Thanks for the replys. I checked the price of a Tech 2 scanner and they are over three grand, so that is not an option. I have an OBDII scanner, however nothing shows and the Check Engine light is not on. I don't think the OBD was designed to check for window problems anyway.(I could be wrong) Thanks again. As I mentioned it is not a big problem, maybe I will have the dealer look at it, and if not too expensive, have it repaired. Thanks.
