Modified stock intake - throaty sound

i made the mistake of buying an ebay intake (option racing) i won't go into details of -why- i put the stock intake back in, but when i did i couldn't manage to get that little reservoir thing back in underneath the filter box. so i thought about it - left it out, reset the computer, let the car idle, and when i took it out for a spin to test it - the car sounded throaty - a little power increase, especially in the mid 3000 range, the car pulls stronger, and has the deepest sound. anyone know anything about this - should i make sure i get that piece back on or get a real intake on there soon - or does this thing sound alright???

If you are talking about the box located close to the intake manifold, dont worry about it. All it is is a resonator to help reduce that noise. As long as you have a filter and the MAS in it doesnt matter what you do to your intake really...everything will be OK, and yes the noise is normal.

Its not that one - its the box underneath the driver side headlight. when you remove the filter box its the one directly underneath with the hole that connects underneath the box. i found a cigarette butt in it so im assuming its to catch crap that gets in the intake.

Does that box just pop in and out or do you have to break it off? From there do you cover the hole up with tape or something?

Re: Modified stock intake - throaty sound

I used a fine tooth saw to get a clean cut as close as I could to the intake pipe, and then ghetto taped it up pretty good with some black duct tape.
