Question Need advice on a 1999 Intrepid

Hey guys. My friends dad owns a Dodge dealership and I told him I am looking for a car and he found one that matched my price and all that. Heres the specs:

1999 Intrepid with 130000 miles. It had a 2.7L engine originally but the guy never changed his oil or something and he blew the engine. The car went to the junkyard until a friend of a friend at the dealership bought it and put a 3.5L high output engine in it.(The same engine that is used in base model chargers) The dealership then got ahold of the car somehow after that. The tires/wheels were upgraded to 16 inches with premium tires and nice rims. Today at the dealership they replaced one of the tires, put new front pads and rotors on the brakes, new windshield wipers, charged the A/C, and changed the engine oil and filter and transmission fluid. I drove the car and it seems like a very smooth ride and nice and responsive with no problems at all. The only problems left which they are going to fix are 2 burnt out lights on the roof in the interior, and a bad motor for the door lock on the rear drivers side. They would sell the car to me for $5000 including my trade-in of my 1993 Dodge Dynasty.(which they said is around $1000). What im basically wondering is if I should buy this car or not. Are they any owners of 1999 Intrepids who have had major problems? Also, does anyone know much about the 3.5L high output engine and if it will perform ok in this car? His dad is a very honest person and said that his mechanics looked the car over and everything seems to be fine. Thanks a lot

Here are the specs for the 3.5L high output engine:

3.5-liter high-output single overhead cam 24-valve V6 engine generates 250 horsepower at 6,400 rpm with 250 pounds-feet of torque at 3,900 RPM

Re: Need advice on a 1999 Intrepid

If the swap was done right yes that engine will run real good in that car, that's a 50 HP gain and 70-80 Lbs-ft more torque than the 2.7 it replaces. the largest engine for 99 was the 3.2 225 HP engine (based on the 3.5 design) so it will definitely have some pep in it's step, plus it's a boatloads more reliable engine.

Hard to say whether you should buy it, it's all in how much you REALLY trust your friend of a friend's dad. And what your feelings are and is the car really worth 5K with a non stock engine in it and 130K or more on the clock?

to repair and get the thrill back than a pissed off girlfriend.

Thanks for the reply. I know he wouldnt lie to me about the car in anyway, and as far as the different engine goes I dont know much about that but I do know that this engine runs strong and smooth and there are no other problems with the car.
