2.2L to 2.4L

Ok, I am having serious problems with my 1998 2.2L Sunfire right now. If the engine is to badly messed up to be fixed at a reasonable price the car will either be junked, or sit in my drive way indefinitely.

My question is, would a 2.4L bolt directly into the 2.2L's engine mounts? Or would I need to have new mounts welded in?

Also, the 2.4L that came out of a Sunfire GT has a manual tranny, is there an automatic that would bolt up the engine? (I live in the city and a manual would just involve way too much shifting in bumper-to-bumper traffic and red lights.) And would this Tranny (if there is one) also mount into the original tranny mounts? Or would these too need to be replaced?

One last thing... are the computers compatible? Or would I need either the 2.4 computer or a custom programmed one from a race shop? And if I need the 2.4L computer would I also need a new ignition? (My buddy just got an M3 engine put into his 318 and he needed the M3 computer, AND the M3 ignition)

Re: 2.2L to 2.4L

nothing as far as i know would bolt up directly to ur old mounts. i.e. u would need new motor/tranny mounts. and yes u would also need the 2.4 ecu to go along with it. and as far as the tranny....im not sure but it would be my guess as to say that u would need an auto tranny from another 2.4 to get it to match, i doubt ur 2.2 tranny would bolt on but maybe they make an adaptor or somthing of the sort. just do ur homework and research.....but in my opinion, its not worth it. i would just sell ur car for as much as u can get for it and try to find a car w/ a lil potential....

Search noob! Nothing will just go in. If you want a 2.4 the easiest, smartest, and by far the cheapest way to do it would be to just buy a Z24.
