cooler thermastat question

my heat gauge stays right below the mark at 210 I would guess around 200. Is that right or can I get a cooler one? Advance said that 186 degree is the only one that they call for it comes with the housing. 186 seems cooler than 200 if that is what it is, but I should have the origanal thermastat in. Any answers?

Re: cooler thermastat question

I have found in the past that its better to stick with the stock stat. The engineers picked it for a reason.

I had a car and the recommented temp was 195. I thought it would be better to run a 160. I had overheating problems. Mostly because the stat would never close. You want it to close so the water has a chance for the water to sit in the rad and cool. If it never closes, you will over heat. Im speaking mostly about in town traffic. Any stat or no stat on the highway, you will always stay cool.

Also, it you want a true temp, get an aftermarket guage, I prefer mechanical. Dont always believe the stock guage.

Hope that helps.
