Need help, Urgent!
I bought a 2001 F4i and just got it into the shop for a service. When i called them to check on it they said it was only running on 3 cylinders. This was news to me but i guess i should have seen it coming. the bike was sluggish and had a small tick from 3000-5000 rpms. What is required for them to fix it and what do ya'll think it will run me to get it fixed? Should i get it fixed or just forget about my loses and sell it running on 3 cyclinders? I need advice soon because i will need to decide by tomorrow. what do ya'll think. thanks
Blake

Re: Need help, Urgent!
Check the spark plugs and the connectors, do spark tests, particularly on the malfunctioned cylinder. Check if the wires or bolts aren't lose on the digital ignition (take off airbox).

Re: Need help, Urgent!
It depends on if its ignition components or fuel/vacuum issues. If its a coil or plugs/wires, than it wont be cheap for a mechanic to fix. Coils on my '01 Kanotuna are $80 a piece...wires arent cheap either. Then you have to pay the tech to install them. It would be cheaper to do the work yourself so long as its something simple like plugs, wires, or coils. But if its rotor or ignitor crap that is a bit more difficult. If the bike is nice and all around worth keeping if it were running right, I would probably spend the money and get it done and enjoy it. If its gonna be like $1000 or something though, Id consider maybe getting out while youre still sort of ahead. See what they want to diagnose it for you. They can test coils and most of the vacuum/ignition stuff without having to replace it, so they should be able to tell you what needs replacement for a reasonable price...then you can decide what to do from there. Good luck.

Re: Need help, Urgent!
i heard back from them today, and it turns out that the fuel pump regulator is bad. it is sending to much gas to cyclinders 2 and 3 which is causing the plugs to foul. The small tick sound i heard was the timing chain or something like that. Well, i guess i'm out 1000 bucks in a hurry.
