considering 95 Escort w/98k--what issues
I've always found that I'm less nervous purchasing a used car if I know the failure trends &/or the maintenance issues ahead of time. What should/could I expect for issues on a 95 w/98k miles? thanks.

Re: considering 95 Escort w/98k--what issues
The 1.9L engine is a fine one. I've got 190k miles on my 93 and it still purrs - but i'm quite adamant about changing oil/filter every 3k. The only issue I've had is a broken timing belt at 140k...it's a non-interference engine, so it doesn't damage anything when it breaks. I'd buy a 91-96 1.9L escort again in a heartbeat if I could proper confirm oil changes.

Re: considering 95 Escort w/98k--what issues
I have a friend with a 1997 Escort with 169,000 miles. She loves it; great gas mileage and as reliable as an anvil. The CCRM recently went bad and kept the air conditioning from working, but a $35 replacement from the local wrecking yard cured the problem.

Re: What is CCRM?
What's a CCRM? I'm getting this car for $650. It definitely needs an oil change and a coolant flush. But, it has had a new clutch put in and the A/C blows very cold. Outside looks ok. Inside's a bit dirty, but even if it only lasts me 6 months, I figure the money was worth it. I hope it lasts more with only 89k. HOPE! Thanks!

Re: considering 95 Escort w/98k--what issues
CCRM "continuous control relay module" is a circuit board assembly located under the air cleaner box (search this forum) that contains relays controlling the air conditioner compressor clutch, the cooling fan, the fuel pump and perhaps another system or two. The only known weak link in that module that I'm aware of is the one controlling the air conditioning compressor clutch. It isn't a reason to avoid the car.....it can be easily diagnosed and replaced.
