A/C blowing a fuse everytime 99 GT

My car is a 99 Grand Am GTSince I bought this car, the A/C does not work. I had a company test the lines to see if it was out of the liquid that cools it. It was full. However, the compressor was not turning on at all. We checked the fuses and found that the one under the hood that lead to the Compressor was blown. We replaced it, and did a test. As soon as we hit the A/C switch, it blew the breaker. We then jumped the compressor to test it out,a nd it worked just fine. We then unhooked the cabling to the compressor and turned the a/c on and it blew the fuse again. I am assuming that the problem is between the dash switch and the fuse panel under the hood. Anyone else had this kind of problem?

Sounds Odd Dave.

You checked the Compressor relay?
IF its bad, stuck open or closed, it could be whats causing the fuses to blow.

Where is the compressor relay? Sorry to sound dumb. But I really have no experience with this sort of thing. I can do brakes, alternators, water pumps, and other mechanical parts, but electrical, I am lost.

the compressor relays under the hood in the fusebox, # 16 .
#13 mini relay HVAC blower, and mini fuse #53 HVAC blower.

the passengerside FB has one fuse letter "D".

Hope this helps and its not a wiring issue, they do suck

Ok, so I found the compressor relay. I removed it, and it looked fine. So I noticed that the relay for the horn was the same one, so I swapped them, put in another fuse and tested it. Blew the damn fuse again!!! Looks like it is wiring. I don't even know where to begin. Maybe the dash. maybe the problem is in the switch???

Well you cant tell a relays good or bad by apperance alone. You need a volt/ohm meter and you would also want a meter to trace wire shorts and such.

Start at the compressor, thiers a plug and wires there. Maybe you'll get lucky and find it right off.

I'll see if I can get a wiring diagram up in the morning for ya to look at.
