No drilling....No welding.....

Had my passenger side engine mount bracket bolts shear on me Saturday morning. By 3 pm that afternoon, had the old broken bolts out and new grade 8s in. All without drilling or welding to them. How you ask?

Easy. With a dremel tool and a cutting disc. Cut a single slot in them about 1/8 deep - yes you do cut into the boss a tad but nothing damaging. Then hit it for 5 minutes with heat from a MAPP torch and then turn them out with a stubby flat head screwdriver. Nothing to it, no fighting to get a rill in there, no having to drag out the welder.

I had all broken bolt ends out within 15 minutes. Took me longer to go to the store and buy new bolts (3/8" x 1") and washers then it did to remove the old ones!

Thought I pass this on.

Thanx..good idea.
I think I'll change mine to grade 8 before they shear.

Opps - made a mistake - they were 3/8 x 1 1/4" bolts. Make sure you use a washer.
