Are they trying to rip me off?

Goodyear tells me that my CV Boots are shot and it will be around $400 to replace them. The car functions just fine, and I look at the boots and they are torn and fallen apart. So I tell them that I still have it under warrenty and I will take it back to the dealership. I look online first and find a Maxima(95) cv boot kit for $2 for one side. Am I missing something or is Goodyear just trying to screw me? I have a 95 Maxima BTW with a dealership warrenty that expires in 7k miles, and it doesn't cover the boot's but covers everything inside them. Any advice?

The $2 boot fix kit is garbage.

Your axels need to be taken out and rebuilt with new boots. It's a big job.

OR you can get remanufactured axels and just install them. They run about 100 bucks each. Then you have labor ect ect... 400 might be on the high side, I'm thinking around 300 for the job.

If you get OEM boots, there probably around 20 - 25 bucks each side. Taking the axel apart to properly install them is a big job. If your boots have been torn for a while, chances are your CV joints have a lot of contamination in them and failure is just around the corner.

Is Goodyear ripping you off? I don't think so, they might be a little high in price. Shop around.
