Re: blower motor

Do you mean the blower doesn't turn on, or it is but you can't feel anything blowing out of the vents?

You can see the back end of it in the engine compartment, on the passenger side firewall, under the coolant overflow bottle.

Re: blower motor

I recommend checking the relay which is behind the glove box. I just got done replacing mine on the 01. I changed with the horn relay to test to make sure before I purchased a new one for $11.

Re: blower motor

If you hear the blower motor, check the different positions on your control unit. Does it work for defrost or heat? I would then check the vacuum lines under your dash. There are a couple of baffels that are vacuum controlled. Moving the switch either opens or closes the baffels. On mine, one of the actuator arms came off the vacuum motor, after I put it back on, my defrost worked again.

Re: blower motor

I have also been having troubles with my Blower. This has been a gradual progression of things. At first, the blower would only work on high. I replaced the resistor pack which lasted maybe a week. I gave up and was satisfied with having all or nothing for the blower fan...until I had nothing (high would cut in and out for sometime until it finally went). Any suggestions on what I should do next? Should I try the relay?

Re: blower motor

I would try the relay since it is easy (behind glove box) and cheap ($12). In fact you don't need to buy one, just borrow the horn relay. Also could be loose harness plug or blown fuse. Test the resistor with an ohmmeter. Test for power to the motor.

Re: blower motor

I checked the fuse and it seems to be ok. I wasn't able to find either the air conditioning relay or the air conditioning thermostat as shown in the Haynes manual. The manual shows the relay to be just above the resistor beneath the glove box. I shouldn't have to remove the glove box in order to access this, correct? Does the relay look like the ones next to the battery terminal.

Re: blower motor

the relay behind the glove box is the blower relay. It is black and is a 1 inch square cube.
remove everything from the glove box and at the top and back... are two rubber stops. Take those off and the glove box will swing down and you will see the relay. The horn relay is behind RH kick panel cover above the fuse box. You can borrow this one to try, it is the same part no..

Re: blower motor

I've found the horn relay, it was attached behind the lower instrument panel. This gave me an idea of what to look for. I still haven't managed to find the blower relay. I'm not so sure the glove box is that simple to remove. I can't find the two rubber stops which would let it swing down. Would the glove box on a 95 XJ be configured a bit different than a 01 XJ?

Re: blower motor

I looked at the 93XJ diagram and it does not show a blower relay used, just the blower switch.
Try this link for a download of the 93XJ document in PDF form:

Some have it and some do not.
Is it a grand or regular cherokee?
Automatic or manual AC controls?

Re: blower motor

Thanx for the pdf file. It is a cherokee sport with manual A/C and Heater controls. I took a look at the control switch (HI/LOW) today and it appears to have melted both the switch and the harness. The dealer would probably charge me an arm and a leg for this part so I'll check the salvage yards first. Hope this is the problem. I'll fill you in when I get the part replaced.

Re: blower motor

Good work...You might be able to make your own if you have to...but use a relay this time.

Aloha and best regards,
