Car Stalling and idle problems

I have a 95 eclipse manual trans. and it cuts off while drivng any speed or occassionally when the clutch is held in. When I come to a stop my idle will drop really low or either my car will just shut off. Also my car doesnt want to start all the time and its hard for it to keep a normal idle and I have to give it gas a couple of times to keep my car crunk. My car does this atleast once every couple of days but it gets worse when it is really hot outside. Last time I had this problem I was told my computer was losing voltage and I replaced it. My car was fine for about a month and now I'm having the same problems. Lately I've noticed my car has been leaking radiator fluid, but that may be a total different problem. Does anyone have any suggestions????

Re: Car Stalling and idle problems

Is it a turbo? The bad idling almost seems like a boost leak but I don't think it is because of your other problems,
So you say it gets worse when it is hot out; well that is quite common because as things heat up they become poorer conductors of electricity (increased resistance). So it seems as though something is causing your ecu to lose power (Just like the mechanic said before) but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is the ECU itself which is the problem. It just means that somewhere along the way (to or from your ecu) there is a short.
That being said; Its hard to tell you where to look.
I would say start at the beginning. Look at your battery terminals clean all the corrosion off and make sure there is a good connection.
After that it gets difficult;
Look to see if you can see BARE wire (no insulation) on any wires coming to or from the terminals. Follow each line as far as you can. If you see any bare wire cover it with electrical tape.
Sometimes the metal firewall slowly cuts into the isulation on wires (via vibration) that come into the cabin. So that could be a problem area.
Next I would say remove the panel which acesses the ECU. Its by your right foot when your driving. There will be one plastic screw and one metal screw. Take of that panel and position your head with your left ear facing down and you will see the ECU> It has 4 connectors coming from/to it. Make sure they are seated properly in the ECU. Then follow those wires as far up as you can and see if you can see any wires which have been damaged. ( I doubt you will be able to see anything but its worth a look).
If your slightly more technically/electrically inclined we can test how much voltage is coming to the ECU with a voltmeter. But don't do that until you know which is the positive and negative wires.

Re: Car Stalling and idle problems

My car is non turbo. I have had some wiring problems in my wiring harness in the past. Some how part of my wiring harness was laying on a hot exhaust manifold and burnt some wires apart causing a short and my computer to blow. When I bought the car it didnt run and I had the engine rebuilt, boarded about 30 over, and the heads shaved. The second time my car broke down mitsubishi got a hold of it and put new crank and cam sensors on it and ever since then my car has had a slight cranking problem (not cause of a low idle, it just was hard to crank). I'll see if I can get my mechanic to check out the things you suggested. I really appreciate your help. Do you have any more suggestions?

Re: Car Stalling and idle problems

Check all the main grounds. Bad grounds can cause some fucked up electrical problems. Also check your crank sensor and the wires coming out of it. The sensor is the one located right on the oil filter housing. Probably check out the wires that you were having trouble with before and make sure they're fine and connected properly.
